In March I spent a week in Riviera Maya, my first time at an all-inclusive resort - and to Mexico. At the end of August I am departing on a tour of the Canadian Rockies, to include Banff and Lake Louise. I have heard how beautiful this region is and cannot wait to go! With these trips, I will have crossed off a few items on my Bucket List!
My friend went to Banff a few years ago and had a marvelous time. She said it is gorgeous.
We stay home in the summer. California is tourist-heavy in the summer, and the weather is less pleasant - foggy on the coast, hot and dry in the valleys/inland. We are foodies so we travel to dine out, but waitstaff is stressed and unable/unwilling to spend a lot of time unless you're in a big group (which we're not) or heavy drinkers (also not). Much more pleasant to travel to the Wine Country areas, the Northern and Central coasts, Las Vegas and almost all other Western states/cities, in the late fall to mid-spring times.
Summer is our time to catch up on hobbies, reading, and such less-than-thrilling but absolutely necessary home issues.
One exception to traveling in the West: one of my favorite places to visit is the Seattle area, which is best August through September. The weather is terrific then, and there is so much to do! I laugh about summer tourists fighting crowds and having to get in line to visit Yosemite and Yellowstone, when you can hike in Olympic National Park, especially the west end, and not see anyone FOR DAYS.
Did some quality time at several reunions for both of us. Funny how people you use to distance yourself from many years ago due to clicks, interests, life style, etc. become just people who are as grateful as you are to still be in the game. :-))))
Went to Spain. It was great. I left before the heat arrived...whew! It is blazing with heat now.
Going to Iceland this summer. Looking forward to the hot springs and friendly people!
Any advice on great day tours would be appreciated.
